Fishing Reports

6-25-17

Still a pick off the surf with bass and blues but those targeting fluke off of IBSP are cashing in. Give a Jetty Ghost Mullnut a shot with a teaser in front or a Spro, S&S, or Magictail bucktail and see what happens. There are still some large blues roaming the back bay and the Toms River as Brian Lindner picked up a nice one while fluke fishing this morning. Keep an eye on your rods if bait fishing the local docks and piers as Jim Mathis picked up a large ray in the Toms River on bunker chunks yesterday. Crabbing is definitely improving on both sides of the river in Island Heights and the Ocean Gate side as Steve Domanski had a 5 gallon bucket filled with keepers yesterday. So if it's crabbing or fishing stop in and pick up what you need on your way out.

Didn't hear much from the surf yesterday except for a few blues. Blues are still roaming the back bay and the Toms River. Crabbing is picking up off the local docks and piers on both sides of the river and those with overnight pots are doing well. More fresh clams came in yesterday as well as fresh bunker with more coming today. We also have killies and live eels in stock at both shops.

The fluke bite off the surf yesterday was pretty good for those targeting them and cashing in on the 2 fish at 16 inches on IBSP. As far as bass and blues it was a pick. Cocktail blues and short bass are still roaming around the Ocean Gate area hitting small swimmers and swim shads. Ed Fliller weighed in a nice 25 inch 5 pound fluke he got in the back bay on a white Spro tipped with Gulp. We had other keeper fluke reported from a couple boats drifting in between the BB and BI bouy and around the 40 can. Crabbing definitely picked up yesterday in the Toms River as we had multiple reports of decent catches. We had one customer come in and wanted to give away 2 dozen so get out there if you can.

For the freshwater fisherman we have Shiners at Murphy's.

There were some blues roaming the surf yesterday and we heard of decent catches of fluke off of IBSP from a couple guys targeting them. Jim Mathis picked up a 5 lb blue along with some cocktail size blues in the Ocean Gate area yesterday morning. The word of the day today is CRABS. We have gotten numerous phone calls from customers with good catches in the Toms River so I guess they finally decided to come out. This should make a lot of people happy.

Slow pick off the surf yesterday with a few blues and a couple keeper fluke off of IBSP reported. The back bay is still holding blues as Kiefer Samul weighed in a nice 12.4 pound blue he got from his kayak in the back bay. Brian Lindner picked up cocktail blues by boat in the Ocean Gate area last night before dark. Crabbing is picking up daily according to a few of our customers trying for them off the local docks but it is still not great by any means. Those with overnight pots and leaving them out for a couple days are doing better. We have fresh bunker, fresh clams, live eels and killies in stock at both shops.

For the freshwater fisherman more shiners came in yesterday and we would like to say congrats to George Millers daughter on catching her first bass. George also posted a nice bass as well.

Happy Birthday Mike from all of us at Murphy's Hook House and Go Fish Bait & Tackle.
