Cocktail blues in the Toms

5-22-17

A little slower off the surf yesterday but there were some blues taken. Cocktail blues in the Toms River. Get the rain gear out today.

Blues and a few bass off the surf yesterday mostly hitting bunker and clams as Andrew picked up a nice 33 inch bass on clams. Our local blind squirrel Steve Domanski had the dumbest 33 inch blue in the ocean hit a bunker chunk off the surf in Seaside. Jim Humbert was fishing the back bay in Tuckerton and picked up blues up to 9 pounds. Adam Douglas picked up a 35 inch blue in one of the lagoons near the shop. Brian Lindner with Rob and Ryan Cashin picked up cocktail blues in the Toms River moving around by boat. So in other words blues out front, in the back and in the Toms River. Get out there.

We have fresh bunker, fresh clams, live eels and blood worms as well as an assortment of frozen baits so stop in either shop and pick up what you need on your way out.

Good Luck to all participating in the Governors Surf Fishing Tournament today at IBSP.

Some larger bass were reported in the 20 lb range off of IBSP from a couple catch and release guys yesterday "Moving" and throwing the bigger 1 5/8 oz SP Minnows, Gibbs 2 1/4 oz Danny's and other larger custom wooden plugs. These bass are in these pods of bait and it's just trying to figure out what they want. Plenty of blues off the surf again yesterday and bunker worked for the bait and waiters and metals, poppers and swimmers worked for those throwing artificials. Frank Vacula picked up blues on a popper in the morning. Bring the heavy metals today such as Jetty Ghosts, AOK T-Hex's, Ava's Hopkins and Gators to cut threw the wind along with a bunker snag just in case they come in close. We got in more Fresh Bunker, Fresh Clams, Live Eels and a flat of bloodworms for the weekend so we are loaded up for the Governors Tournament tomorrow.

Murphy's will be staying open and running 3 shifts all night tonight and not closing until Sunday night at 9 so if you want to get that spot or "certain hole" on the beach stop in at 1 AM, 2 AM 3 AM etc.... and pick up what you need and get out there early to beat the crowd.

The boats and kayak fisherman found some larger bass off of IBSP and the Seaside area yesterday morning as Nick England weighed in a nice 39 lb bass he got by snagging and dropping bunker. Blues is still the news off the surf hitting bunker chunks and artificials and the Inlet produced them as well hitting bucktails, Ava's, T-Hex and Jetty Ghost Mullnuts and slims. Brian Lindner found short bass and cocktail size blues in the Toms River last night before dark hitting Kettle Creek shads, Gag's shads and SP Minnows. More Fresh Bunker and Clams came in yesterday with more coming today and tomorrow so we will be loaded up for the Governors Tournament. Murphy's will be open Saturday morning at 5AM and not closing until Sunday night (staying open 24 hrs.) so if your in the tourney and want to get a spot at 1 AM stop in and pick up what you need and beat the crowd.
